Hello everyone!

My wife was telling me she wanted to try a detox diet as she's been experiencing "low mental and physical energy."  I have a feeling it stems from chasing a 3 y/o and 10 month old around, but still it's not fun when you have no energy to enjoy them.  Anyhow, I seem to remember hearing some horror stories on those kinds of things and I have reservations about quick ones you can find in the back of a magazine. So what I'm curious about is do any of you know of any good ones?  Or is it just something a magazine thought up and does more harm than good?   Nor does it have to be a "detox diet"... just a natural, healthy way to flush-out/replenish the system.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I have many friends who have tried various detox diets and they all do the same thing from what I can tell: they totally flush out your system in such a way that you might as well have a telephone installed in the bathroom because you won't be anywhere else!  laugh A lot of water weight is lost, you may feel sick  sad4 and then your system evens out. After awhile, you can start to eat normally again and you gain back all the weight that you lost.

I had a friend who did the cayenne pepper detox diet and it sounded absolutely horrific that someone would put themselves through such a process! She and her roommate were so sick from it that, in my opinion, the benefits did not outweigh the misery! You may want to take a look at this article on detox diets: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18595886/

I have found that if I get the urge to detox (which isn't very often, mind you) then I just take a day and eat mostly fruits and vegetables and drink lots of water. That usually does the trick and I don't have to intentionally punish myself. I'd also suggest that she have her blood work done and see if she is low in iron or if there are any other unseen things going on.

So there's my 2 cents worth. Hope it helps.

Hey, Lisa...

Thanks for the input.  I feel pretty much the same way about those kinds of diets.  I think she does too.  I don't know if I was clear in my initial post, but she's not looking for a way to lose weight but gain more energy.  The blood work is a good call though.  That hadn't occured to me.

Basically she is looking for which certain types of foods or combination of foods will help boost her energy.  Ideas anyone?

Standard process has a really good program to strengthen and yet cleanse the organs.  I've done it myself and it doesn't involve a lot of time on the w.c.! Leslie
