 I wanted to here how others practice kata I am sure there are many ways to practice. I like the to do a kata at least 3 times 1st. at low and slow checking each movement as I go for correctness  2nd. Medium speed and power for effect. 3rd.All out for effect everything I got into each movement. There are times when I take one kata and just work on that but if I want to practice several katas and exercises in the same day this has worked best for me. Do you think this is a good or bad way to practice if so why? How do you like to practice kata? Lets here it. Jim

Performing the kata's mirror image (left/right reversed).
Take combinations out of a kata and practicing them and their mirror image. Take a static positions out of a kata and practice holding that position.
Apply part of a kata sequence to meditaiton.
Working out the opposite (attacker) portion of a kata.
Performing the kata with arm and/or foot weights.
Performing the kata with a weapon (Kata Itchi with Sai, etc.)

Wow! I was begining to thinking everyone was to busy practicing to talk on the forum. Grin
James:That's great on breaking down the kata really getting inside it, I like to always imagine the attacker. I have mirrored kata a few times just to see how it worked but for daily practice I like to do it on the side that it was taught. Holding the poistion I like too I do that in my LOw And Slow mode. I don't like arm and leg strap on weights for me, too much chance for enjury to the joints and can pull a muscle if not real careful. I do use what is called a Safety Vest you wear it and can add weight up to 32lbs. I never have used more than 10lbs. Good to here how others are doing it we can always learn good or new ways to practice. The many thing I think is what works best for you and you enjoy doing it so you Just Do It! AnyOne else  want to share their Practice tips? Jim

When I teach in a class;
1st time for the sequence,
2nd time with low stances,
3rd time with POWER,
4th time with flowing circular movement,
5th time just let the student do the form.
You can change this according to what the student needs.
