Badmonkey Swimming update:

There are two time plateaus for summer league swimming.  "Champs" times and "Reserve" times.

At the end of the year there is a special swim meet at which time only those swimmers that achieved those time levels will be invited to swim.  These swimmers represent the four districts in the Galveston County area.

This past weekend, Little Victor (My son  binkybaby) missed the 25 meter backstroke reserve time by 0.09 seconds.

I have been training him for 3 months now, and he has picked up the sport readily.

The Patito did it this past weekend!

He swam the 25 Backstroke leg of the Medley Relay and was under the Reserve time, we were excited at that point.  He told my mother that he could hear me telling him to "pull, KICKKICK, pull, reach for the candy"  all the things that I say when I am training him in the Texas City Nat.  Just when you think your students are not listening...

Then when the individual 25 backstroke came up...he went even faster and beat  the Reserve time by -0.94 seconds.  The next goal is Champs time +2.34 seconds (we still have 3 more meets through Mid July to complete this endevour).

In the swimming world these are both astronomical goals, but I have seen stranger things.  I started to show him the actual backstroke start and the more progressive stroke drills for proper hand placement.  It was all I could do to keep myself together when he did what I told him to do.  I was an official during that time and after the event I got some relief and you could hear us cheering outside the pool area.

It was an exciting day (hot, sweaty, hungry, thirsty, but well worth the time and effort).

Not bad for a little guy  binkybaby that nearly drowned 4 months ago.

Funny what practice can do for you. Upward and onward!

A while ago, little Victor tried out for a USS swim team.  In which he nearly drowned.

I took him to a pool in Texas City and trained him privately.  this year he qualified for all four strokes in then went onto further qualify for a champs time in backstroke.

I took him to another USS team this month and he tried out again.  Upon completing his "test" the coach asked me if we had previously tried out for the before mentioned team.  As it turns out, he was the one that gave Little Vic his swim test back then when he nearly drowned.  He was impressed with how Vic has come along in such a short time.  His actual words were "That swim test has stuck with me all this time".  he he he

Such a small world, eh?

He starts officially today as a Level1 swimmer (where he should be).  Keep your hands crossed as he starts his next chapter.
