There's been a lot of mis-reporting around this issue. In fact, the phones store the location data, but they do not transmit it back to anyone. It is only stored on the phone, and on your computer when you sync. In addition, pretty much any phone with 3G and GPS do the same thing, it's not unique to iPhone or Android. At least they will be able to find it if it gets stolen! So far, my phone far outweighs itself with good work vs anything else.  If anyone wants to know where am I, I am waiting for you... Leslie

I suspect it became a media issue when they reported that Michigan Sate police use a device to pull that info off your phone as part of a traffic stop if you consent.
