I stumbled upon your website. Noticed that Pyong Hwa Do is Okinawan Karate and is a subset of WHLC. When does a student start learning WHLC or introduced to it? Is PHD mainly karate or is it a mix art with chinese art in it. Are there any animal styles in PHD. Is WHLC like any other Kung fu art where you have to be black belt in PHD before really learning WHLC? How many Kata's in PHD?

Welcome to the forums.

I have recently begun taking instruction in PHD and have found my instructors to be exceptionally competent and excellent at working with me as an individual, so I don't feel like "just another number" - or a "tagged bovine".   Wink

I'll leave your questions to be answered by someone more qualified, but I hope to encourage you to do more research into this art while waiting for your answers.  Smiley

Hello there. PHD actually incorporates many of the concepts of whlc and includes all of the exercises and many of the self defense techniques of whlc. One begins with the basic forms (I pattern), then moves into the Okinawan forms (lost dances) and then into the beginning curriculum of whlc.  There is a gradual transition from the linear movements of basic phd into the circular movements of whlc.  As the student progresses they will get stronger and better able to handle the animal forms in whlc which begin at brown belt (or sooner -depending on the student) and progress throughout their time in the art.  The student will transition from the phd into whlc at the nikyu/eikyu level.  Hope this helps, Leslie
